Welcome to Philosoffee!

Thank you for joining us.

Welcome to Philosoffee! Here, at the outset of this little adventure, I'd like to take some time to tell you about the project and hopefully set the stage for things to come.

So, I am sure you have already noticed that the name "Philosoffee" is a combination of "philosophy" and "coffee". For a long time now, these have been two chief pleasures in my life; they are things I like to share with others. Thus, this website. Here is a place to both share great coffees and interesting thoughts.

You'll notice that there are links at the top of the home page, and one of them is the Recommended Coffee section. Here, both myself and guest posters who are interested will post reviews of various coffees that we've tried. From gourmet roasts to Walmart brands, we'll sample them all for the fun of it. You'll also see a link to Coffee Talk, where full length reviews of coffee, coffee products, and coffee shops will be posted.

You'll also see the Reading List. This page will be updated once per month with the books that we're working through. It is not at all obligatory that you follow along; not reading the books will in no way effect your ability to engage with the subject material presented in the blog posts and essays. Its just an enricher for those interested. For any who wish to submit a guest-essay, though, the reading lists will be a great way to start. There is a monthly list and a quarterly list. I'll try to do at least one essay per month summarizing the readings and seeing if they fit together in any way. The quarterly list is a bit more themed, but not overly rigid.

Finally, you will also see the Common Terms and Definitions page. I don't aim to make a full dictionary of philosophical terms here. Instead, as terms arise in the course of things, I want to update this page to include those jargon-words and phrases that actually matter to the purposes of the project. I'll specify when a term or phrase is an actual, recognized bit of philosophical terminology or when it is a word or phrase coined (or, more likely, horribly mutated) to suite the personal intentions of myself or other authors on the site.

A Note about the Organization of Blog Posts

Sometimes things in philosophy can get a bit......wordy. I understand that most people do not like over-long blog posts. Ergo, those posts that are going to be lengthy (roughly three or standard Word more pages) will always be tagged with the term "essay". I found this to be the easiest way to organize them on my end that didn't get too complicated. Bear in mind that I am a naive simpleton regarding computers, so as I learn more about websites, etc, the organizational qualities will (hopefully) improve.

How This Will Work

We will be featuring written, audio, and (eventually) video content. These will no doubt be rather clunky at first, but will become easier and more refined with time. So bear with us, please!

The goal is to switch up the postings every week. Thus, every other weekend there will be a audio/video posting and the weekends between them will likely see some of the larger, and perhaps more technical, essays being posted. During the week, we'll try to post as necessary, but the posts will probably be shorter non-essay blog entries.

Right now, including myself, there are four official content contributors. We are always keen on accepting guest posts and even bringing in new full-time content contributors. If you are interested, reach out to me via the contact information provided in the "About Me" section. We're happy to include original ideas and are open to suggestions on themes or issues we haven't discussed. The only requirement is that whatever the theme is, it must be judged to be intellectually stimulating and helpful in our goal.

Thank you for your time!
