Common Terms and Definitions

Terms and Definitions!

One of our goals here at Philosoffee is to share in the wonderful world of jargon. Philosophy has, over the years, accumulated a large number of terms that are alien to ordinary speech. Not only this, but it has appropriated some ordinary terms (like "being") and given them a philosophical meaning that operates independent of ordinary usage.

To that end, we're going to be constantly adding to this list of terms and definitions. If you come across a term that we don't define, but that you feel should be defined, by all means let me know and I'll add it to the list. Please note that beyond being categorized under the first letter, the words are not necessarily in further alphabetical order. If the number of words listed gets out of hand, I'll likely alter that.

You will notice that, for now, the list below is mostly blank. That's because I felt it best to build the list as we go instead of front loading it with a ton of terms that might well not come up in our enterprise.
